1. What is your personal opinion towards file sharing? Is it right or wrong? Please explain.
In my opinion file sharing is okay, depending on what you're actually sharing with others. If you were a student or even an adult with an occupation, in certain times I find that it would be alright. Sometimes you will need help in editing or printing something out when it comes to assignments for school or for work. By asking for help, you would most likely share a file by email or USB for the other to see. Whether it be an image, a piece of literature, music or a video it's okay to share, just as long as you are the one who has created it from scratch and it's your own ideas. If it isn't originally made by you, it would be wrong to share it. For example, if you downloaded music illegally or bought it online, it would definitely be wrong to share the file(s) to others. First off, in any case you are expected to not illegally download music and if you did buy music online at any point, you are not to share those files with others who haven't paid a cent or they would be getting it for free. The big problem with file sharing is mainly the fact that where the files came from that are being shared are getting ripped off by those who receive it. Like movies, they strictly have a warning for people not to copy it and share/show it with others. Nowadays pirated movies are found anywhere, you are able to buy them for a cheap price.
2. If you produced your own art/song/movie, would you hold the same opinion?
I would definitely hold the same opinion if I produced my own art/song/movie. For something I made myself and it would most likely be something personal that related to my own life experiences. I would not want someone to just download it illegally or if they had already bought it from an official place and shared it to others like sending the file, I would feel cheated. Sure, all my work is being shared, but am I getting much from that? I think not. And it would be much worse if I was not a popular artist and barely got much money for my works. But I would hold a different opinion if I were one of those artists who make millions and have so many fans and viewers for their videos/music/movies. I wouldn't mind at all since I already make so much money even if there are people who illegally download my things and share my files. So really it all depends on how much money I am making and how popular my pieces are that I would feel it is aright or just plain wrong.
3. Do you feel that it is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it is only intended for personal use?
I feel that if the material were only intended for personal use, than it would morally acceptable. Since they aren't sharing it with anyone else, and just keeping it to themselves than I find in my opinion that it's okay. Since it is only them that will be listening/watching whatever it is that they have downloaded, it won't be going anywhere else. But sometimes the person will download more than a few files and begin a collection like say, music files. Many people download music files for their own liking and pretty much end up with so many files that might have half of them downloaded illegally. So, that might be a problem even if it is in their own personal use, they are doing it way too much.
