Web 2.0 YOU!

1. How will emerging technology affect literacy?
It depends on how people face these things that really affects literacy. Of course with a online reader like an ebook/ereader it has become easier and more likely that people are reading more. That is one of the positive things about emerging technology. It is now more convenient for people at any age to read as many books as they want without having to go to the store, all they need to do is pay just a little bit. Although these things affect literacy in a good way, sometimes there can be a downside to the emerging technology. With blogs or chats with friends online containing whatever content in them, might make the person more lazy when they actually do have to write for an important cause. With chatting sometimes people tend to use abbreviations to talk to others so it is quicker. Without them noticing they are already en golfed in this way of thinking, and might use these abbreviations to write actual literature for an important reason. Not only that, but with all the information you are able to find on the internet when researching for any work, might affect you greatly. It is extremely easy to get lazy and just copy and paste already done information in text on sites. This will not benefit them at all, this is viewed as plagiarism and is shunned by society. But now a days more people are doing it because it is a quick and easy way to mabye finishing their work, this leading to them not using their own words to explain or make their own things up by their ideas.

2. How is Web 2.0 challenging us to "rethink ourselves"?
Web 2.0 challenges us to all the new emerging technology. We need to fight ourselves when it comes to working productively in school or just being less lazy with our work, to do good and make use of our education. It can also give us the feeling that maybe with all this emerging technology we need to stay perfectly fine not affecting any of our time from family members or friends. With all this web technology we can become more influenced and should avoid truly changing ourselves, we should not let all this take affect on us in any way. Not only that but it challenges us to be more cautious of what we say when we are on the internet. Either not to leave out important personal information for others to see and to not say anything mean to anyone else. Also it challenges us to try new things and learn from our simple mistakes.

A Look @ Music Videos

Divine Brown - Lay it on the Line

As I viewed this music video I found that this was definitely something sweet and had that old school feeling to it. The story line is a simple cute love story, where the guy had his first love but was fooled. And a girl who was interested in him, but he didn't really notice her as she watched him get fooled by the girl that he loved. At the end they both ended up with mutual feelings. As I looked at this video I couldn't help but make comparisons to today's videos. In today's society the videos are found with suggestive themes. It leaves a sort of feeling of, "Wow. What happened?" The video I find is just as entertaining and amusing than all the other music videos I have seen today. I find that what the directors/creators were portraying was just to show any normal sort of love stories that happen in everyday lives of thousands of people. That there is happiness at the end for one who has gone through painful things and that anyone can find love and is loved no matter what. This music video also presents the feeling of love and is very well in fact in line with Christian values, showing that people share their love with one another. I have also thought that maybe the director was influenced/inspired by maybe his own love story between how he had met his girlfriend/wife, or just by the lyrics. I really love the meaningful and well thought out lyrics, it is indeed relate able to all audiences. And I just love to listen to her strong yet soothing voice. The video as well with the dancing and all the little things like the simple one setting throughout the whole music video is nice and calming. I like this music video because of its simplicity yet still able to leave a great impact on many people.

Is it Really in the Eye of the Beholder?

1. Why do you think people are portrayed this way in the media?

I think people are portrayed this way in the media, just so it catches more attention and media has a really powerful affect on most audiences. People who are normally used in the media are skinny, have developed body parts and have a lot of makeup on. This way this idealization that this is how others will be interested in their works/products is a great one. People follow most of what is shown in television/magazines/movies etc.

2. How are you affected by the images you see?

I am not really affected by the images I have seen. Really, the media is just coming up with all these ideal appearances that no one should be paying any attention to. Also, I don't really care much about the media and therefore am barely influenced by it, I am happy with how I look, it's who I am.

3. What can be done to reduce the amount of young men and women that are negatively affected by these images?

The creators of the images that are shown in the media should avoid using these models that really aren't seen around on a daily basis everyday walking around the streets. They should use anyone and everyone no matter how they look to portray their messages. I think there wouldn't be much of any difference since, women and men would be more positive about all these images since it is more of a relation to them. They should also stop photoshoping/fixing the photos to an extent that the person is changed completely into a whole different look. That would offend and definitely send negative impact on audiences that the media has to fix people's appearances because they aren't satisfied with how they truly genuinely look.

4. What would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn't all glammed up? Is this a possible route that society should take? Why or why not?

My reaction to a magazine cover where the subject isn't all glammed up would be instant respect to the makers and I would be pretty impressed and amazed. Since it really isn't something you would see everyday, in fact almost never that the subject isn't all 'glammed up' This should definitely be a possible route that society should take, it will have more of a positive affect to all audiences. In fact I think if doing this it would be more eye catching than the usual same old "ideal image" sort of thing.
